Buenos Aires
The usual cheap taxi with Uruguayan driver into town - he pointing out where the million or so poor Paraguayan and Peruvian legal and illegal workers live. Their barrio quite a contrast to the national football training ground. Hotel New Callao not quite so new but very handily located two blocks from the Congress building and four from the Obelisc. Peter tangled with a tango dancer with seemingly endless legs over in La Boca. Taxi driver two decided that Dock 4 was a long way from where I knew Dock 4 was so we had to chase him down and backtrack to the renovated Puerto Madero restaurant area by the old docks. As the crow flies the pink palace where Eva Peron gave her famous wave is very close - but crows don't have to cross the multiple multi-lane one-ways to get there. Various protests were under way but not the mothers-of-the-disappeared. Past a very indigenously dressed Peruvian pan-flute group into the Microcentre we then succumbed to the need for cervesas. The cold beers contrasted with the fruity smells from the grating under our feet. El Obelisco made a pretty picture backlit by a fading sunset. Hunger was the winner on the night - the famous Argentine beef steaks were the solution. A great sleep was required after our 12 hour flight from NZ.
